Itinerary

07:30 — Hotel pickup

An early start matters here more than anywhere: pandas feed and play in the cool of the morning and doze through the afternoon. Your driver times arrival for the gates.

08:00 — Chengdu Panda Base

Two to three hours among the enclosures and bamboo groves — adults crunching breakfast, cubs in the nursery wing tumbling over each other. Golden viewing before the mid-morning coach crowds arrive.

11:30 — Sichuan lunch

Mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, dan dan noodles — calibrated to your spice tolerance at a restaurant locals actually use.

13:30 — People's Park teahouse

Chengdu's living room: bamboo chairs, endlessly refilled gaiwan tea, mahjong tiles clacking, and the optional thrill of a traditional ear cleaning. Sit long enough and the city explains itself.

15:30 — Jinli Street & Kuanzhai Alleys

Rebuilt Qing-style lanes of snack stalls, opera masks and craft shops that light up beautifully with red lanterns toward dusk.

17:30 — Drop-off (or hotpot!)

Back to your hotel — or let your driver deliver you to a real Chengdu hotpot and explain the dipping-sauce ritual before saying goodnight.

Times are a template, not a timetable — this is a private tour, and the day flexes around you.

Good to Know

Is the panda volunteer/keeper experience possible?

Yes — at the Dujiangyan panda center, about 1.5 hours from Chengdu, where visitors can join a half-day keeper program (enclosure cleaning, bamboo prep, behind-the-scenes access). It must be booked ahead with passport details; ask us and we'll arrange the day around it.

Can we combine pandas and Leshan in one day?

Physically yes, but it makes both feel rushed. We recommend pandas + city on one day and Leshan (with or without Mount Emei) as its own trip — our 4-day journey does exactly that.

Does the driver speak English?

Honest answer: most of our drivers speak little English — we hire them for safe, professional driving first. Day-to-day needs (departure times, extra stops, restaurant tips) work smoothly through translation apps, and our English-speaking planning team stays one WhatsApp message away throughout your trip. For full English commentary at the sights, ask us about adding an English-speaking guide.
