Itinerary
07:30 — Guiyang pickup
Roughly two hours west by expressway, climbing into the karst country of Anshun. Coffee and a nap both permitted.
09:30 — Huangguoshu main falls
The big one: 78 metres high, over 100 wide, audible before it's visible. Walk the viewing circuit from the bottom pools upward, then take the path behind the falls through the Water Curtain Cave — you will get pleasantly damp.
12:30 — Local lunch
Anshun-style home cooking near the park — think sour-soup fish and mountain greens, adjusted to your spice line.
14:00 — Tianxingqiao & Doupotang
The scenic areas bracketing the main falls: Tianxingqiao's turquoise pools threading a miniature stone forest, and Doupotang's broad, gentle cascade — the 'silver chain' falls. Most day-trippers skip these; that's their loss.
16:30 — Return drive
Back over the mountains with a golden-hour stop if the light plays along.
18:30 — Guiyang drop-off
Hotel, airport or rail station — or ask about continuing west instead and making this Day 1 of a longer loop.

When is the waterfall most impressive?
June through August, when the summer rains push it to full thunder — that's also when the spray rainbows are most frequent. It never runs dry, but late winter is its quietest flow.
Is the walk behind the falls safe for kids and seniors?
Yes — the Water Curtain Cave path is fenced and paved, just wet and occasionally slippery. Bring a light rain jacket; ponchos are sold everywhere for pennies.
Does the driver speak English?
